INCON Tap Changer Monitoring

Advanced and intelligent

INCON® Load Tap Changer (LTC) station control devices transmit critical location information between the LTC and the LTC controller, allowing distribution transformers to operate as efficiently as possible.

INCON 1250 LTC

The 1250-LTC is specifically designed for monitoring transformer tap changers. Its hardware is the same as in the 1250B model, with additional features including a galvanically isolated power supply, serial port, and relay inputs that provide enhanced analysis of the tap changer’s status.

Highlights and Technology

  • Receives signal from a synchronizing transmitter (1292 series).
  • Provides absolute position feedback.
  • Displays the tap changer position and transmits this information via analog and serial connections.
  • Compatible with any LTC or voltage regulator.
  • The software includes a “draghand” feature that indicates the highest and lowest tap changer positions.
  • Programmable via the serial port or front panel.
  • Provides an analog output for SCADA or tap changer controllers.
  • Tap changer position, deviation from the centerline.
  • Number of changes, “up or down” alarms, and total alarms.
  • Number of consecutive changes in one direction – alarm.
  • “Unstable signal” and “signal missing” alarms.
  • Tap changer relay acknowledgment.
  • Number of days since neutral was crossed – alarm.

INCON 1250B

The 1250-LTC is specifically designed for monitoring transformer tap changers. Its hardware is the same as in the 1250B model, with additional features including a galvanically isolated power supply, serial port, and relay inputs that provide enhanced analysis of the tap changer’s status.

  • Provides absolute position feedback.

INCON 1511 LTC

The 1511-LTC offers basic tap changer position monitoring using a slidewire feedback device. When the tap changer switches states, the movable contact picks up the voltage divided through the slidewire resistance, so each position has its own unique voltage.

Highlights and Technology

  • Receives signal from a resistive drum switch or “Slidewire” transmitter, with a minimum total resistance of 60 ohms.
  • Provides more reliable transmitter readings by filtering the signal programmatically and using a stronger 24 V signal.
  • Optional RS-232 port.
  • Optional upper/lower limit relays that operate as programmable contacts (drag-hand).
  • Output connection for PLC, SCADA RTU, and substation computers.
